Draken Tugela

Engineered for Demanding Conditions.

Rooted in the principles of utility and clarity, the Tugela combines a highly legible dial, durable construction, and a purposeful approach to form. Every element has been considered as part of a cohesive system, where functionality informs the overall aesthetic.

The design language takes cues from the King Protea, interpreting its complex structure through layered forms, geometric transitions, and controlled surface treatment. Rather than directly replicating natural shapes, the watch abstracts these characteristics into a contemporary tool-watch architecture.

The dial layout is based on a symmetrical arrangement of elements, using strong contrast and oversized markers to prioritize legibility in a wide range of lighting conditions. Particular attention was given to the 12 o’clock position, allowing quick orientation of the dial during low-light use.

The case architecture combines sharp geometric surfaces with a bead-blasted finish, emphasizing a utilitarian character while minimizing visual distractions. The bezel was designed as an integral part of the overall form, with increased height and pronounced edge detailing to improve grip and operation.

On the reverse side, the caseback features an engraved illustration inspired by the Drakensberg mountain range and the Tugela River, establishing a visual connection to the watch’s name and geographic origins.

Tugela comes with more than just a rugged steel bracelet; each piece includes a color-matched, dense-weave NATO strap that adds flexibility for different settings, from mountain trails to city streets.

The dial is protected by an anti-reflective sapphire crystal, while luminous material is applied directly to the dial elements to maintain a clean visual appearance during daylight hours and ensure visibility after dark.
